['sæmjʊəlsən], Paul Anthony, amerikanischer Volkswirtschaftler, * Gary (Indiana) 15. 5. 1915; 1940-86 Professor am Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge (Massachusetts), danach Gastprofessor an der New York University. Samuelson, einer der Hauptvertreter des Keynesianismus und der mathematischen Richtung der Volkswirtschaftslehre, lieferte u. a. Beiträge zur Konsum- (z. B. Indifferenzkurvenanalyse), Konjunktur- und Wachstumstheorie (z. B. Verknüpfung von Akzelerator und Multiplikator zur Konjunkturerklärung), Wohlfahrtsökonomik, Außenwirtschaftstheorie (z. B. Faktorpreisausgleichs-, Stolper-Samuelson-Theorem) und zur Theorie der öffentlichen Güter. Für die Weiterentwicklung der statischen und dynamischen Wirtschaftstheorie erhielt Samuelson 1970 den Nobelpreis für Wirtschaftswiss.en. Samuelson war auch in der Politikberatung tätig, u. a. für die Rand Corp. (1949-75), das amerikanische Finanzministerium (seit 1961), das Federal Reserve Board (seit 1965) sowie für D. D. Eisenhower und J. F. Kennedy.
